Most Services will continue with social distancing and available live stream. Southington, CT – The American Legion Kiltonic Post 72, located across from the town green at 64 Main Street, has announced the schedule for Memorial Day 2020. Due to the consistent changes with regards to the current COVID-19 pandemic, everything is subject to change and we suggest that you check our facebook page at facebook.com/kiltonicpost72 for updates. After consulting with the Health Department, we regretfully will have to cancel the Memorial Day Parade this year. We will still be conducting most memorial services with the exception of at nursing homes. The schedule is listed below. Some of the services will be live streamed and we will provide more details closer to Memorial Day regarding the live stream. We will have our normal Memorial Day service at 10:30am. This will be live streamed on Facebook so anyone who wishes to watch and pay tribute to our brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice can do so safely online. Any questions regarding Memorial Day that are not outlined in this release or at a later date on our Facebook page may reach out to Jason Cap, Senior Vice Commander at jcap@kiltonicpost72.org The American Legion, Kiltonic Post 72 will be conducting Memorial services at the following locations in Southington on the morning of Memorial Day Monday, May 25th: Panthorn Park* located on Burritt St. 7:30 AM Wonx Springs Cemetery* located on Marion Ave. 7:45 AM Quinnipiac Cemetery located on Marion Ave. 8:00 AM Recreation Park, located on Southend Road 8:20 AM South End Cemetery located on Southend Road 8:30 AM Immaculate Cemetery located on South End Road 8:35 AM The Marine Corps League will be conducting Memorial services at the following locations in Southington on the morning of Memorial Day Monday, May 25th: Memorial Park located on Woodruff St. 7: 30 AM Oak Hill Cemetery located at the intersection of 7: 45 AM Queen St. and Flanders Rd. Holy Trinity Cemetery located on Prospect St. 8: 05 AM West Street Cemetery* located on West Street Extension 8: 15 AM St. Thomas Cemetery* located on Meriden Ave. 8: 35 AM The Sons of the American Legion will host a flag raising ceremony outside the Southington Care Center at 9:00AM. Times given are approximate and may vary slightly. Locations denoted with an asterisk * will be live streamed on Facebook. A Ceremony honoring Veterans will be held at 11am in front of the American Legion Home, at 64 Main St. Southington CT and will be live streamed via Facebook. Friday February 14th is Valentine’s Day and we will be serving a dinner with steak, stuffed baked shrimp, a veggie and bread for $20. Tickets are available in the lounge and should be purchased before Thursday so we may get a count. Saturday February 22ND is our second annual Mardi Gras. The annual coat drive is still under way and we will accept gently used or new coats, hats, scarves, gloves, mittens and boots. Please bring them to the post lounge. The Service office is open every Tuesday from 10am till noon. You can enter the front door or by the ramp to the hall. This will be a great event, we should have a big show of support for our friends next door. We have a great selection of personal pizzas hand made locally by Zuppardi’s Apizza in New Haven and delivered to us fresh every week. We have Hummel hotdogs, stuffed peppers and all kinds of snacks for those late-night munchies. So, stop down with your friends for a bite to eat, good music and drinks. The kitchen is open till the bar closes!
I know it’s a long way out, but I have started next year’s St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraiser which will be Sunday, April 26th in the post hall. S.A.L. monthly meetings are held on the 1st Tuesday at 7pm. Legion monthly meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday at 7pm. Legion Riders monthly meetings are held on the 1st Monday at 7pm. Marine Corps League monthly meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday at 7pm. Red men monthly meetings are held on the 2nd & 4th Thursday at 7pm. House Committee meetings on the third Tuesday in the post lounge at 7pm. Stop down Friday night for some karaoke fun in the Post lounge beginning at 7pm! As usual if you your hungry we have a great selection of personal pizzas hand made locally by Zuppardi’s Apizza in New Haven and delivered to us fresh every week. We also have 10” Martin Rosol hotdogs, stuffed peppers and all kinds of snacks for those late-night munchies. The kitchen is open till the bar closes.
