Governor Lamont Visits American Legion Kiltonic Post 72 to Announce Veterans Memorial Funding and Recognize Local Veterans’ Advocacy

SOUTHINGTON, Conn. — American Legion Kiltonic Post 72 was honored to welcome Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont to Southington for a special event recognizing two important efforts benefiting veterans and the local community.

Governor Lamont joined members of the American Legion, local and state officials, veterans, and community members at Kiltonic Post 72 to celebrate the release of $50,000 in state funding for the restoration of the Southington Veterans Memorial.
The funding will help preserve and restore the memorial so that it can continue to serve as a lasting tribute to the men and women of Southington who answered the call to serve our nation.

During his visit, Governor Lamont also recognized members of Kiltonic Post 72 and others in the community for their important role in helping shape the “Heroes Act,” a new Connecticut law expanding vital benefits and support for veterans.

Among those who worked extensively on the effort was Kiltonic Post 72 Veterans Service Officer Larry Ireland, along with several other Post 72 members and members of the greater community. Their advocacy, experience, and dedication helped bring veterans' needs to the forefront and contributed to the passage of this important legislation.

Kiltonic Post 72 is proud of the work Larry and the many others involved put into this effort. Their commitment demonstrates what can be accomplished when veterans, community leaders, and elected officials work together toward the common goal of supporting those who have served.

The Post extends its appreciation to Governor Lamont for visiting Kiltonic Post 72, recognizing the work of our local veterans and advocates, and supporting the preservation of Southington's veterans heritage.

For more than a century, American Legion Kiltonic Post 72 has served Southington's veterans and the greater community through veterans assistance, youth and education programs, patriotic observances, scholarships, community service, and advocacy.
