This pass Monday Barbara and I had honor of visiting Pets for Vets- ROAR-Ridgefield Ct which is based at ROAR Donofrio Family Animal Shelter on behalf of the Connecticut American Legion Ray Bigelow Athletic Club and present them a check for $350.00. These funds were donated by members of Ray Bigelow Athletic Club at Last Year’s Legion Convention. The funds will be used to assist with Medical Care for Companion animals- dogs and cats that are given to Veterans. Pets for Vets - ROAR pays for everything the veteran needs to start off with his/her companion animal. Funds like yours help us to provide continued medical care for their pet. The Facility at Roar Pet Shelter was very clean and well run. Barb and I had chance to observe a new dog Vincent that was very timid as the volunteer staff Lexi work to make the dog comfortable. I was very impressed with the way they worked with Vincent who I'm sure was suffering from Stress just like the Vets that this dog is going to help once it is fully trained. The trainers identify the dogs for the program based upon the needs of the veterans and the dog’s temperament. These are not Service Dogs so the amount of time to train a dog is shorter than a Service Dog. Once a dog is identified by one of our trainers we place the dog into foster care which usually is from 4-6 weeks. The trainers work on behavioral issues that would be needed for the veteran, getting the animal used to a home environment and anything they need to make a smooth transition into their new home. then the dogs are matched to a Veteran who needs some unconditional Love. As a Pet owner myself I know how much Sami (my Rescue) helps me and I'm sure the dogs and Cats that are given to Veterans from Pets for Vets will do the same. So, if you have some extra money that you want to donate to help Veterans here is a great way to do that and it helps Veterans here in Connecticut and New York area.
