Southington, CT – The American Legion Kiltonic Post 72, located across from the town green at 64 Main Street, will be collecting donations on May 16th between 12 noon and 2 pm (look for American Flags along sidewalk) for the Veterans who are at both the Residential Program and Healthcare Center at the Connecticut Veterans Home in Rocky Hill. There are currently 89 Veterans in the Healthcare Center and 134 Veterans residing in the Residential Program. Due to COVID-19 and enhanced protocols, social distancing and various isolation wings in place to keep Veterans safe at the facilities, the American Legion is asking for donations to provide various items to these Veterans at the Veterans Home to assist in this time of uncertainty and help make it a bit more comfortable through the crisis. A few of the items we will purchase with these donations for the Veterans are flat screen smart TV's and prepaid Trac-Phones for both entertainment and communicating with their families and friends, laundry detergent and coffee. You can stop by on Saturday and drop off your donations or mail them to Kiltonic Post 72, PO Box 217, Southington, CT 06489 Attn: Rocky Hill Fund. Post holds second comedy night of 2019 on April 27th at 7pm. American Legion builds ramp for disabled veteran. Southington, CT – The American Legion Kiltonic Post 72 Service Officer, Igino Torone, received a call from a neighbor who had a friend in need of help. The friend, who is a Korean War veteran and, in a wheelchair, has difficulties trying to get in and out of the house because of the steps in front of their house. Mr. Torone was able to reach out to the veteran’s spouse who invited him out to their home to see what work would be needed. Upon leaving, Mr. Torone went to Home Depot, as they have helped in similar cases, was able to donate the wood needed to build the ramp. Legion Officer Cliff Wright volunteered to build the ramp for the veteran. The couple was very thankful to the American Legion and Home Depot for the help.
