5/22/18 Updates

Due to the weather last weekend the Auxiliary will be holding their annual touch-a-truck event on Saturday, June 2nd with all kinds of cool stuff for the kids to do!  See attached.

It turns out the general admission seats for Saratoga this year went from $12 to $30.  With that being said the bus trip has been cancelled.   

   May 23rd starts music on the green with “Rock solid alibi”, a rock band sponsored by the turf.  It’s open house in the post lounge every Wednesday as well!  Stop down with your friends for a bite to eat, an adult beverage, good conversation and great music (on the green).

 May 26th starting at 7pm at the Bristol post will be the Led Zeppelin cover band Physical Graffiti.  Tickets are only $12, see you there!

June 16th is the dart league picnic, more info to follow.

The Legion family picnic date is Saturday, June 23rd at post 45, we will be serving ribs, chicken, dogs and burgers.  Click this link for more information.     Annual Picnic.pdf

On June 30th we need 20 volunteers for the drive in, more info to follow.

There is a signup sheet in the lounge for summer pool league and a summer dart league, sign up today!

 There is a monthly raffle in the post lounge.  This month’s raffle prize is barbecue themed basket which includes a portable (and fully assembled) grill, thanks Jay!   Select sauces, rubs, spatula, tongs and lots more!  Tickets are available in the post lounge for $5 each the drawing is Memorial Day which is Monday May 28th.

Today Sheri will be making garden vegetable soup and a great hump day hard roll special on Wednesday both, only $5 each.

The house committee is now serving its new menu Wednesday & Friday 3pm till 9pm.  Stop down and check it out!  The new post lounge hours are; 1:00 – 11:00 Monday thru Friday, Saturday 11:00 – 11:00, Sunday 11:00 – 9:00.

5/11/18 Updates

Thanks to everyone that came out to all the cemeteries in town last Saturday to help clean up veteran headstones and replace American flags as necessary.  This is really a great post!

There are still tickets available for a Saratoga bus trip which leaves Spartans Club in Berlin August 11th at 7:30am and returns at about 10:30 that evening.  The cost for the trip is $75 per person.   Please respond to this email if you are interested in going no later than next Monday the 14th of May.  Patty and I have been going for years and it’s a blast!

The Sons of the American Legion at Post # 72 at 64 main street in Southington will be holding a Mother’s Day Breakfast on this Sunday May 13th beginning at 8am till 11am.  Featuring eggs cooked to order, omelets, pancakes, bacon, sausage, home fries, toast, coffee and juice for only eight dollars per person.

Congratulations to Hank Lucus on receiving his “Quilt of Valor”! Pictured in attached photo from left to right is Hanks wife, Anita Zobbi Lucus, Hank Lucus and Maureen Hulsart representing the Quilts of Valor organization.

3/1/18 Updates

With St. Patty’s Day coming and to show your support for our troops, stop down in the post lounge and pick up a couple green light bulbs for the outside of your house, (green lite a vet).  While you’re there enjoy one of our six Draught beers, a bite to eat and friendly conversation with fellow Legion family members.  There is also a sign-up sheet in the lounge for members who would like to volunteer and help to prepare a Saturday night dinner.

1/23/18 Updates

Please keep Pauline Hepple and her family in your thoughts and prayers today as she goes through surgery.

A graveside service will be held for our Legion Auxiliary member and friend Coleen Badgley Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 11:30 a.m.at Oak Hill Cemetery, Southington.  Afterwards a reception will be held in the Post hall.

Military Appreciation Dinner 2017 PDF

If you have any new or gently used coats, scarfs, gloves, sweaters, sweat shirts or even winter boots stop down at the post with them, you can make a huge difference in somebody’s day!  Thank you everyone for your donations!

Southington High School is holding its annual sub drive, (see attached form).  These kids do a lot for the American Legion it would be great if we could return the favor and buy a bunch of subs!  Stop down to the lounge and fill out a form and leave your $7 per sandwich with the bartender.  Steve will be picking them up tomorrow!

 Winter Conference is upon us! January 26-27-28, 2018.  All reservations (Hotel & dinner) due by Jan. 19, 2018 According to the agenda, if you are only able to come Saturday you will be able to benefit from all the break-out training groups.  No stay-over necessary.  This year

Saturday night is the ‘Hall of Fame’ dinner buffet at 6:45pm.   If you plan on staying the rooms are discounted to $99 + 9% tax. Your reservations and bill are in your name and your responsibility.  We do not get involved with hotel reservations

Dart B team is home playing Double Play and C team is away against Cherry Street this Wednesday at 7pm.

Thursday night is setback.

 There will be a Realty meeting Wednesday the 24th of January at 6pm.

There will be a Centennial Meeting on the 24th at 7PM

11/14/17 Updates

Great turnout for Veterans Day!  Steve McCarty did a wonderful job keeping everyone at the podium in time and I thought all the speeches were very good!  Excellent job by all (especially the S.A.L. for preparing lunch) that made it a special day!

Later that evening the prime rib dinner sold out while Matt played music all night!  Another example of us all working together getting things done!

Thanksgiving is a week from Thursday, there is a signup sheet in the lounge if you would like to bring a dish down for our dinner which usually starts around 6pm.  Roman does a regular turkey while I prepare a fried bird so stop down and really mess up your diet for the day!

10/11/17 Updates

What a great weekend for the American Legion family!  With the help of everyone we knocked it out of the park again!  Thanks to everyone that helped to make last weekend so successful!

The house committee is looking for someone with experience putting down carpet tiles.  We would like to get the carpet installed in the lounge the week of October 15th.  If you can help please give me a call.

All military retirees are cordially invited to attend the annual Retiree Appreciation Day/Seminar sponsored by Naval Submarine Base New London on Saturday, October 14th, 2017 at Dealey Center Theater.  The Seminar starts at 0900.  Following the formal presentations there will be information stations and display tales set up in Morton Hall Gymnasium from 1200-1400.  The Sub Base ID card Office and the Auto Decal office will not be open.  For further information on the seminar events, contact the Retired Activities (RAO) at 860-694-3284.  The RAO hours are 0900-1200 Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and 0900-1500 Tuesday and Thursday.  Note:  All persons desiring entrance to the Submarine Base must show a valid military or retired ID at the gate.

11/8/17 SHS Concert Band will be playing their annual Veterans Concert starts at 7 pm sharp.  We invite all Legion members to gather at bottom left of stage during intermission to go back stage with us to thank the students and to pass out the 2017 Legion SHS Band patch
