5/25/17 Updates

The time line for this Memorial Day activities is:
6:30 – meet at Legion lounge – pick up wreaths and cemetery flags
7:30 – commence Services at designated locations – Marine Corps League and Legionaries
9:00 – joint Flag raising at Southington Care Center
9:45 – start organizing parade participants Derynoski Elementay School lower lot
10:30 – parade step off
11:30 – Memorial Day Ceremony front steps of Legion Post, inside Post Hall in the event of inclement           weather
PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE ACTIVITIES WILL OCCUR RAIN OR SHINE. I WOULD SUGGEST BRINGING RAIN GEAR JUST IN CASE.
The Annual Picnic will be on June 24th from 1pm to 5pm
Thanks to everyone that came out to touch-a-truck last weekend to support our Auxiliary!  We had a lot of fun and it looked like the kids had a blast!

Saturday July 1st, we can help them again when the Post72 Auxiliary will sponsor the movie “Top Gun”, more info to follow.

Thanks to Frank Vingris for the picnic table he donated for the back of our post.  Beginning Saturday June 10th, the post lounge will be non-smoking.

There are smoking areas setup outside in four locations for your convenience.

Attached is a flyer for our second major fund raiser for our Centennialcelebration in 2019!  Dan LaRosa will be in the hall June 17th at 6pm, $20tickets may be purchased on line, in the post lounge or for $25 at the door.F.Y.I. the quarter jug in the lounge has raised over $150.00 for the cause!

John Larson will be coming to Southington on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 11:00am to make a presentation of military medals.  The family of the late Joseph Clements will be attending the ceremony to be presented his military medals to include a Prisoner of War medal that Joseph never received.  The ceremony will take place at the American Legion Hall, 64 Main St. Southington beginning at 11:00am.   The CCDA Dart Banquet/Picnic will be held Sat. June 17, 2017 beginning at 12 noon at the American Legion Post #45 located at 835 Hanover Road, Meriden.  We hope to see everyone there, captains please inform all of your team members.  June 17th is going to be a fun day! Attention High School Juniors that either attend SHS or live in Southington. American Legion Post 72 is again accepting applications for Boys State, thru the generous contributions of Southington Clubs there is no charge for this week-long program. The legion family cookbook is available in the post lounge and it’s only$10.  Proceeds will be going to support VA&R and Children & Youth.  There really are some great recipes in it!    Every Tuesday night the ladies of post 72 meet at 7pm in the post lounge tocrochet mittens, scarves, blankets and such for our local veterans.  Stopdown to help or to learn or even just make a donation.  I will be posting pictures of their latest works soon.  Southington Grief Support for Partners and Spouses will run through August meeting on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month in the post hall at 6pm.In addition, they will have a social event the 4th Wednesday of the month.  This week’s hump-day-hoagie is going to be tuna with lettuce and tomato on a8″ roll for $5! Patty’s Italian wedding soup beginning Tuesday!

5/1/2017 Updates

Attached is a photo of the quarter jug located in the post lounge with funds raised going towards our centennial celebration!  To date we have raised over $130.00.

The Centennial Committee’s Next Comedy Night is June 17th at 7pm.

The American Legion Kiltonic Post 72 will be hosting Dan at the second of a series of four comedy nights this year.

The next meeting of the American Legion Riders is Monday, May 1st at 6pm, that’s tonight.

There will be a vote at next month’s Legion meeting (May 9th at 1900 hours) regarding honorary life membership and whether or not to make the lounge non-smoking.  These are very important matters and your attendance would be greatly appreciated.

Attached is a photo of Ed Sterniak’s daughter receiving the award on behalf of her father who is 100 years old and a 70-year member of post 72!

May 5th is Cinco DeMaio with a Taco Bar, $2 Corona, drink specials and more!

May 6th is the Kentucky Derby with mint juleps, drink specials, raffles and a free drink to any ladies wearing a Derby hat during the race.  If you would like to bring a dish to share that would be good!

 

There is a signup sheet in the lounge if you would like to prepare your favorite dinner for your legion family on a Saturday night of your convenience.  So, stop down and talk with myself, Roman or Sheri for more information.
